Week 6 – Lesson 2: Timing intercourse for conception
Your mission, should you choose to accept it…
Today we are considering the timing of intercourse for conception
Why is this important?
Having sex at the right time of your cycle increases you chances of getting pregnant faster. It may take some of the fun and romance out of it but getting the timing right can take the stress out of having to wait months to get your bun in the oven.
What you actually need to do:
There are a number of schools of though on this topic. Having considered the pros and cons for each this is what I recommend.
- Intercourse every second day around ovulation.
- The egg starts to deteriorate as soon as it is released so ideally you have sperm present before you ovulate. Conditions in the cervix are favourable for sperm for about 5 days during ovulation.
- So for example if you ovulate on day 17 of your cycle then start intercourse on day 14, then day 16 and again on day 18 to catch the egg on the ways down the fallopian tube.
- Enjoy your homework!
